Fujioka City is blessed with a natural environment, with numerous towering mountains, including Nishi-Mikaho and Sakurayama, and rivers such as the Ayukawa, Kaburakawa, and Kanagawa rivers. During the Meiji period, the sericulture industry flourished, and the city developed as a lumber hub. Today, tourism and agriculture are thriving. Many visitors come to enjoy popular tourist attractions, including Sakurayama Park, where beautiful flowers bloom; Fuji Hill, where the Fuji Festival is held; Earth and Fire Village, where visitors can experience handicrafts; Sanbashi Gorge, designated a natural monument; and Yashio Hydrangea Village. The Fujioka Festival and Oniishi Summer Festival are hugely popular, drawing large numbers of participants and spectators. The city also offers numerous hiking trails, including the Kanayama Castle Walking Trail. Local specialties include winter cherry blossom apples, Oniishi miso, local sake, mineral spring rice crackers, and Sanbashiishi yaki.
