Annaka City flourished during the Edo period as a castle town and a post town on the Nakasendo road. Its natural beauty includes Mt. Chausu, the Usui River, and Lake Usui. The area is known as one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts, home to Isobe Onsen and Kirizumi Onsen. Numerous events are held throughout the year, including the Akima Plum Grove Festival and Sakimae Shrine Festival in spring, the Usui Pass Firefly Village Festival and Isobe Onsen Festival in summer, the Annaka City Chrysanthemum Festival and Hometown Festival in autumn, and the Robai Festival and Sengataki Fudo Festival in winter. Oneyama Forest Park is home to the Gunma Prefecture Wild Bird Forest, where visitors can observe a variety of wild birds. Local specialties include Isobe Senbei rice crackers, Toge no Kamameshi (rice bowls with rice cooked in a pot), and wasabi pickles.
