Takayama Village, Agatsuma District, is located in the north-central part of Gunma Prefecture, at the eastern end of Agatsuma District. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the village is surrounded by mountains such as Minamiyama, Hafuyama, and Akane Pass. The village is also home to the Nakuta River, a tributary of the Agatsuma River, which is part of the Tone River system. Located on a plateau, the village boasts beautiful scenery, seasonal flowers, hot springs, campgrounds, and ranches, making it a romantic and relaxing place. The mild summer climate with low humidity makes it very cool, making it a popular summer retreat. The village once flourished as a post town on the Mikuni Kaido road, connecting Echigo and Edo. Major tourist attractions in the village include the Gunma Prefectural Gunma Astronomical Observatory, Takayama Onsen, and Nakayama-juku and Nitta-juku, remnants of the Mikuni Kaido post towns.
