Nakanojo Town, Agatsuma District, is located in the northwest of Gunma Prefecture, bordering Niigata and Nagano Prefectures. Approximately 80% of Nakanojo Town's terrain is covered by forests, and the town is rich in natural beauty, including Lake Nozori and Yoshiga-daira. Surrounded by mountains, the town has an inland climate. The urban area to the south has developed as the economic, cultural, and transportation center of Agatsuma District, while to the north are the high peaks of the Mikuni mountain range and the designated Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. The town's main industries are agriculture, forestry, commerce, industry, and tourism. Agriculture includes rice, konjac, and vegetables, while tourism includes the Hinatami Yakushido Temple and the Akaiwa District, an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
