About Naganohara Town
Naganohara Town, Agatsuma District, is located in the northwest of Gunma Prefecture, in the center of western Agatsuma District. Most of the area is comprised of highlands over 500 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains such as the Agatsuma River and Mount Kusatsu-Shirane to the north and the Asama Plateau to the south. Due to its high altitude and proximity to the Sea of Japan, Naganohara Town in Agatsuma District has a climate intermediate between the Central Highlands climate and the climate of the Sea of Japan. The cool summer weather makes it a popular summer resort. Major tourist attractions include Michimaruiwa Castle, Kawarayu Shrine, Agatsuma Valley, Onioshidashi, Fudo Falls, and the Asama Volcano Museum. The Yukake Festival, held every January, is a popular event attracting spectators from outside the town.
