Takayama City in Gifu Prefecture is the largest city in Japan. Most of the city is forested. It has carefully preserved its history and traditions dating back to the Edo period, and in the city center you can see the old-fashioned streets known as "Little Kyoto of Hida." Its main industries are agriculture and forestry, taking advantage of its lush natural environment. Local specialties include Hida beef, red turnips, and spinach. Many hot spring resorts, including Fukuji Onsen, Hirayu Onsen, and Shinhotaka Onsen, are popular with tourists. The Shokawa Cherry Blossoms, designated a Gifu Prefecture Natural Monument, are also famous, and visitors can see cherry trees with a long history of 500 years. The Norikura Skyline is also a spectacular driving spot.
