Located in the southeastern part of Gifu Prefecture, Nakatsugawa City is a city rich in nature, with the Kiso River flowing through its center. It has long flourished as a transportation hub, but has further developed as a commercial and industrial city with the influx of various companies, and is now a city where abundant nature and commercial and industrial facilities merge to create a thriving local industry. Famous tourist attractions include Mount Ena, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, and Meijiza Theatre, designated an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property by Gifu Prefecture. One of the city's famous specialties is the Ena chestnut, which is used in dishes such as chestnut kinton and chestnut rice. Another famous specialty is gohei mochi, a skewer of non-glutinous rice grilled with miso paste.
