Kani City was established in 1955 through the merger of surrounding municipalities, successfully increasing its population and revitalizing the region through housing development. Another merger in 2005 saw further growth. Located within 30km of Gifu City, the city enjoys excellent convenience. Flat terrain and industrial parks are spread throughout the region. Local specialties include local sake and taro. As locally produced produce is also processed, the area is overflowing with an abundance of ingredients. A major tourist attraction is the roadside station "CANITTE," which features a unique design and sells local specialties.
