Kaizu City in Gifu Prefecture was formed in 2005 by the merger of three regions. Located in the southernmost part of Gifu Prefecture, it is only about 30 kilometers from the prefectural capital and the major city of Nagoya. However, it is a town rich in nature, with mountains and clean, flowing waters. Its main tourist attraction is the Historical and Folklore Museum, where you can experience the history of the Jomon period. You can see shell mounds and learn about animal and human bones from that time. Hot springs also spring up in the area. The open-air baths on the hilltop offer panoramic views of the vast plains, and there are also restaurants and accommodations available for your enjoyment.
