Yamagata City, adjacent to Gifu City, the center of Gifu Prefecture, was established in 2003 through a merger. The entire region is hilly and has an abundance of water thanks to the abundance of rivers such as the Nagara River and Toba River. Chestnuts and bellflowers are symbols of Yamagata City, and the city has friendly relations with the state of Oregon in the United States. Events held throughout the year include Akari no Fantasy in Miyama and Miyama Raft River Boating. The Miyama Raft River Boating is an event that aims to promote the natural environment to people outside the area. Many tourists from all over the country visit to experience nature.
