Gero City was established in 2004 from the merger of five towns and villages. 90% of the area is forested, with the remaining 10% being residential areas and residential land. It borders Takayama City to the north and Nagano to the east. Many mountains exceed 1,000 meters. Taking advantage of this abundance of nature, national and prefectural parks are also located here, and we recommend visiting them. Hida beef is a specialty of Gero City. Along with Kobe beef and Yonezawa beef, Hida beef is known nationwide. Its exquisite marbling and melt-in-your-mouth texture are highly acclaimed. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, and is an essential ingredient in meat dishes such as sukiyaki and shabu-shabu.
