About Kitashiobara Village
Kitashiobara Village, Yama District, is located in the northwestern part of Fukushima Prefecture, bordering Kitakata City, Inawashiro Town, and Bandai Town in Fukushima Prefecture, and Yonezawa City in Yamagata Prefecture. Known as one of Japan's snowiest areas, the village's Oshioura Bandai Onsen has a history spanning over 1,000 years, and during the Edo period, the area prospered thanks to salt harvesting near the hot springs. Today, the hot springs are enjoyed by many visitors as a tourist attraction. Mount Bandai, towering 1,816 meters above Kitashiobara Village, is registered as one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains. Visitors can enjoy mountain climbing and skiing on Mount Bandai. Lake Hibara is also popular for its smelt fishing and bass fishing. Rice farming is thriving in the village, and the area boasts a vast rural landscape.
