About Aizumisato Town
Aizumisato Town in Onuma County was newly formed in 2005 through the merger of three towns and villages. Agriculture is thriving, with rice varieties such as Koshihikari and Hitomebore cultivated, as well as vegetables and fruits. Local specialties include the Takada plum, said to be the largest plum in Japan, grape wine, Mishiranui persimmons, Aizu carrots, which take five years to harvest, and Aizu Hongo ware, the oldest traditional craft in the Tohoku region. The town is rich in natural beauty and is known for its numerous cherry blossom viewing spots, including the Miyagawa Senbonzakura, Chitosezakura, and Usuzumizakura. The Iris Festival is held every June at Izasumi Shrine, where 100,000 irises of 150 varieties bloom beautifully. Visit Futanuma Forest Park to observe rare plants and the Moi green tree frog.
