About Izumizaki Village
Izumizaki Village in Nishishirakawa District boasts a pleasant climate with little snowfall within Fukushima Prefecture. In June, the hydrangeas at Satsuki Park are in full bloom, and the Flower-filled Campaign is held. The Izumi River flows through the center of the village, and numerous ruins have been excavated near the river. These include the Harayama Tomb, where Japan's oldest sumo wrestler statue was excavated; the Izumizaki Horizontal Tomb, built in the 7th century; and the Sekiwagukan'e Ruins, where a county office from the Nara and Heian periods was excavated. Many of these historical sites are exhibited at the Izumizaki Museum. Agriculture is also thriving in the region, with cucumbers, parsley, tomatoes, green onions, buckwheat, and rice being harvested. Local specialties include local sake made with water from the Nasu mountain range, as well as buckwheat and aikoyaki.
