About Nihonmatsu City
Nihonmatsu City is located in northern Fukushima Prefecture, with Mount Adatara and its foothills to the west, the city center to the east, and the Abukuma River flowing nearby. In 2005, the former Nihonmatsu City and three towns merged to form the new city. The city once flourished as a castle town around Nihonmatsu Castle. Its traditional industry is Nihonmatsu Traditional Furniture, which is said to have originated when palace carpenters made furniture and fixtures during the extensive renovation of Nihonmatsu Castle. The Nihonmatsu Furniture Festival is held every September. There are numerous tourist attractions, including Nihonmatsu Castle, the former Nihonmatsu Domain Stone Monument, Dake Onsen and Kurogane Onsen, the former Oshu Highway, Kasumigajo Park, which has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, and Tohoku Safari Park.
