Hinoemata Village, Minamiaizu District, borders Katashina Village in Gunma Prefecture, Uonuma City in Niigata Prefecture, and Nikko City in Tochigi Prefecture. Nearly 98% of the village is covered in forests and fields, making it a lush green village. Hinoemata Village, Minamiaizu District, is home to the highest mountain in the Tohoku region, Mt. Hiuchigatake, at 2,356 meters above sea level, and is an area that receives heavy snowfall. There are many tourist attractions where you can experience the charm of nature, including Sanjo Falls, selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls, Okutadami Dam, and Hinoemata Onsen. In August, the Oze Hinoemata Onsen Ski Resort hosts the Midsummer Snow Festival, which features events such as snow fireworks and snow sports days, attracting many tourists. Local specialties include maitake mushroom rice made with locally harvested maitake mushrooms and wild vegetables.
