Koriyama City is located in the center of Fukushima Prefecture in the southern Tohoku region and is designated as a core city. With the Tohoku Shinkansen, Tohoku Main Line, Tohoku Expressway, Ban'etsu Expressway, Ban'etsu West Line, and Ban'etsu East Line all running through the city, it has developed as a transportation crossroads in eastern Japan. It is also a key hub for economy, inland industry, distribution, and transportation, and is the second most populous city in the Tohoku region. The Abukuma River flows from south to north through the center of the city, and Lake Inawashiro faces the west. Major tourist attractions include Koriyama Big Eye, a beloved landmark in front of the station, Lake Inawashiro, Nunobiki Plateau, and Sessonan. Traditional performing arts such as Yanagibashi Kabuki and Konan Aizu Manzai, and the famous Senbonzakura cherry blossom viewing spot, are also popular.
