Kitakata City is located in the northern part of the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture. The city is surrounded by mountains such as Mount Bandai and the Iide mountain range, and rivers such as the Agagawa River, Tadami River, and Nigorigawa River. Formerly known as Kitakata, Kitakata City is known nationwide for its Kitakata ramen and Kura to Kiri. Taking advantage of its abundant natural environment, Kitakata City has also become famous in recent years as a "town of green tourism," where city dwellers spend their vacations in rural areas. The former Yamato Town was known as a soba village, and the former Takasato Town as a fossil village. Major tourist attractions include Atsushio Onsen, Iideyama Shrine, Kai Honke Zashiki, and the ruins of Shingu Castle, attracting many visitors.
