About Aizubange Town
Aizubange Town in Kawanuma County, located in the western part of the Aizu Basin, is home to the Agano River and Tadami River, and is surrounded by rice paddies and forests. The town boasts numerous remains, including the Izumozaki and Kajiyama ruins, which tell the story of the Paleolithic period. Furthermore, Eiryu-ji Temple is home to a wooden standing statue of the Thousand-Armed Kannon, designated a National Important Cultural Property, and attracts many tourists. The "Bange Hatsuichi Otawarahiki" (Big Bale Pulling), a winter tradition in Aizu, involves people competing to pull large straw bales in prayer for a good harvest and good health. The Sugi no Ito Sakura (Sugi Thread Cherry Blossom) tree in the grounds of Yakuoji Temple is one of the five Aizu cherry blossom trees. Local specialties include miso and soy sauce made with locally grown soybeans, the local sake "Bange no Sake," honey, horse sashimi, horse leather products, and soba noodles. The town is also known for its koshihikari rice.
