About Yame City
Yame City, located in southern Fukuoka Prefecture, is a new city formed in 2010 by the merger of two towns and two villages. Yame City is home to nationally renowned agricultural products such as Yame Tea, electric chrysanthemums, and Amaou strawberries. Traditional crafts such as Buddhist altars, paper lanterns, handmade washi paper, and stone lanterns still thrive in this city of tradition and agricultural products. From plains to mountainous areas, the city is blessed with abundant nature, and its tourism resources and tea culture have long been rooted in the city. Furthermore, numerous ancient burial mounds have been discovered among the ruins dating from the Jomon to Yayoi periods. The Iwatoyama Tomb, Chausuzuka Tomb, and Maruyama Tomb are popular tourist spots, and the Yame Fukushima area has been designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
