About Ukiha City
Ukiha City was formed in 2005 by the merger of Yoshii Town and Ukiha Town. Neighboring municipalities include Kurume City, Asakura City, and Yame City. Fruits are the main specialty of the city, with grapes, pears, strawberries, persimmons, and peaches cultivated. The Chikugo Yoshii district, designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, features a streetscape of white-walled storehouses. Its attractions include Igura no Yakata, Tokoji Temple, and Kagamida Yashiki. Other tourist attractions include Chounnotaki Park, the 1.5km-long cherry blossom-lined Nagarekawa River, and the Ukiha Okunchi Festival. The Chikugo Yoshii Ohinasama Tour is held from February to April, and the Chikugogawa Onsen Fireworks Festival is held in July. Ukiha City's naturally rich Tsuzura is one of Japan's 100 best rice terraces.
