Neighboring municipalities of Otomo Town in Tagawa County include Tagawa City, Aka Village, and Kawasaki Town. It is one of the towns that make up Chikuho Prefecture, and the coal mining industry once thrived. It was a major economic power, but declined and all mines were closed. The former sites are now utilized as industrial parks. Furthermore, the Hikosan River that flows through Otomo Town in Tagawa County is home to clams. A clam cultivation and protection ordinance has been enacted to protect them. Tourist attractions include the Natural Forest Campground, Otomo Town Traffic Park, and Kentokuji Kofun Park.
