Okawa City is located in the center of the Chikushi Plain in the southwestern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Its city tree is the paulownia tree, and its city flower is the canna. Okawa City has long developed around agriculture and fishing, with woodworking, in particular, being a key industry in the city and renowned nationwide. As a result, the city's catchphrase is "Aiming for a Vibrant and Comfortable Space: Interior City Okawa," and it heavily promotes woodworking products. Rice, wheat, rush grass, strawberries, and figs are cultivated as agricultural products, while Fukuoka nori seaweed is produced as seafood. The city also preserves many cultural assets, including the Chikugo River Lift Bridge, the former Yoshiwara Residence, and Furan Palace, which are designated as Important Cultural Properties by the national government.
