About Kurate Town
Kurate Town, Kurate District, borders Kitakyushu City, Nogata City, and Munakata City. It is located approximately 20 km from Kitakyushu City and 60 km from Fukuoka City. The central, eastern, and northern parts of the town have relatively gentle terrain. The northwestern, southern, and western parts are mountainous. The coal industry once thrived here, but has declined, and manufacturing is now thriving. There are many housing- and automobile-related businesses. Agriculture and livestock production involves beef and egg production. Kyoho grapes are also grown, and many tourists from outside the prefecture visit to pick grapes. Hasedera Temple and the Hase Kannon Temple, a wooden standing statue of the eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and the Kotsuki Yokoana Cave, a national historic site, are popular tourist attractions.
