Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City, is one of the administrative districts that make up Kitakyushu City and is located in the southeastern part of the city. Kokuraminami Ward is nationally famous as the birthplace of "Ouma bamboo shoots," but it is also developing as a commuter town within the city, and its population is on the rise. It is also known for its many ancient tombs, including the Arajinmori Tomb, the Goza Tomb Group, and the Maruyama Tomb. Gamo Hachiman Shrine is also famous as Kokura's oldest shrine. Tourist attractions include Bunka Kinen Park, Abeyama Park, and Kokura Racecourse. Ouma bamboo shoots have also been branded, winning the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award and the Prime Minister's Award.
