Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, is one of the administrative districts that make up Kitakyushu City and is the central district of the city. The area around Kokura Station is the city center of Kitakyushu City, with urban areas stretching north-south and east-west, and including entertainment districts such as the downtown area and Sakai and Konya. Furthermore, a monorail runs from Kokura Station, and public transportation is well developed. Major commercial areas include Uomachi Gintengai, Riverwalk Kitakyushu, and Chacha Town, and Kokura Castle is located in the center of the ward as a tourist destination. Currently, the construction of large buildings is progressing, along with the construction of tower apartments. Long ago, the town flourished as a castle town for Kokura Castle, and developed primarily around heavy industry.
