About Minami Ward, Fukuoka City
Minami Ward, Fukuoka City, is one of the administrative wards that make up Fukuoka City and is located in the southern part of the city. Neighboring municipalities include Hakata Ward, Chuo Ward, Jonan Ward, and Sawara Ward. It became an administrative ward in 1972 when Fukuoka City became a designated city. Most of the ward is residential, functioning as a commuter town for Chuo Ward and other areas. The area around Konosuyama in the northwest is an upscale residential area. Aburayama in the southwest is a popular place for residents to relax. Historically, it was a settlement dotted with rice paddies, and during the Yamato period, the Tsukushinomiya family of the Imperial Court was located in the Miyake area. Major tourist attractions include Hakata Onsen, Hibara Sakura, and Aburayama Ranch. Events are also held to solicit tanka poems using Hibara Sakura.
