Dazaifu City is located in central Fukuoka Prefecture, bordering three other cities and towns within the prefecture. Located approximately 16 kilometers from Fukuoka City, it has developed as a commuter town. This area was also the site of Dazaifu approximately 1,300 years ago, and the city boasts numerous historical sites and famous landmarks. This historical background has led to numerous tourist attractions, attracting many visitors throughout the year. One of the most famous is Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, where the god of learning, Sugawara no Michizane, is enshrined. The shrine also houses numerous national treasures and important cultural properties. The city is also home to the Kyushu National Museum, the remains of the Dazaifu Government Office, and the remains of Chikuzen Kokubunji Temple.
