Nakagawa Town in Chikushi District, adjacent to the southwest of Fukuoka City, is experiencing rapid urbanization, with commercial facilities and residential areas being developed one after another as a commuter town due to its proximity to Fukuoka City. However, the rest of the town is mountainous with traditional farming areas, and the majority of the population is concentrated in urban areas. Nakagawa Town in Chikushi District is known for its specialty product, yacon, a plant in the Asteraceae family. In recent years, it has been gaining attention as a healthy vegetable, and many products made with yacon, such as yacon manju and yacon drinks, are sold in the town. Nakanoshima Park is a famous tourist spot, and is used by people of all ages for water activities, leaf-viewing, and as a summer getaway.
