Chikugo City is located in the central part of the Chikugo Plain in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. It is also famous for its Nishiki textiles, which originally began as a side business but have now become a specialty of the city. The Sekijinyama Kofun Tumulus is a nationally designated cultural property, and Kurume mochi is a nationally designated intangible cultural property. The city is also famous as a habitat for the Japanese magpie, a nationally designated natural monument. Other popular tourist spots include Funagoya Onsen and Mizuta Tenmangu Shrine.
