About Takahama Town
Takahama Town, Oi District, Fukui Prefecture, is located at the westernmost tip of Fukui Prefecture. Backed by the Imori Mountains to the southwest and facing the Sea of Japan to the north, it is a town rich in nature, sharing the mountains and sea. While the region enjoys a relatively warm climate, snow accumulates in the winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing scenery of the seasons. Takahama Town, with its long history, is said to be the birthplace of sushi, and as a result, "Wakasa Takahama Sushi" is sold as a local specialty in various places, including private supermarkets and souvenir shops, in an effort to promote "sushi town development." Nakayama-dera Temple on Mount Aoba is designated a national important cultural property, and many tourists flock to see the statue of the Bato Kannon Bodhisattva and the Kongorikishi guardian deities enshrined in the main hall.
