Mihama Town, Mikata District, Fukui Prefecture, is located in the southwestern part of Fukui Prefecture. Approximately 80% of the town's 152.32 square kilometers is covered by forest, with the plains extending into the Mimikawa River basin, which flows through the center of town. Blessed with magnificent natural beauty, including the sea, mountains, rivers, and lakes, Wakasa Bay and the Mikata Five Lakes have been designated as Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park. The town's main industries are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, taking advantage of the natural environment. Local specialties include heshiko (mackerel sushi), made from mackerel caught in the Sea of Japan and marinated in rice bran, as well as mackerel sushi and sweet potatoes. The Mihama Heartful Morning Market, held every Sunday from April to November, brings together fresh seafood and mountain produce, making it a popular event for both locals and tourists, as it offers affordable fresh produce.
