Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, is located in the southern part of the prefecture, bordering Seiyo City, Kihoku Town, and Kochi Prefecture. Facing the sea, the city is blessed with abundant nature, including mountains and rivers. Founded in 1889, the town became a city in 1921 through a merger of municipalities. Tourist attractions include Uwajima Castle, a designated national important cultural property that celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2000, and Hachiman Shrine, home to the national natural golden nembutsu tree, Ibuki.
