Much of Ainan Town in Minamiuwa District is mountainous, and it also has a ria coastline. Blessed by the sea, the town's fishing industry is thriving. Aquaculture, including pearl and yellowtail farming, is also a distinctive feature. Agriculture and forestry are also thriving, and the town is particularly famous for its citrus fruit cultivation. Local dishes include barley miso, crab soup, and maru-zushi, a type of sushi made from soybean pulp. Town events include the Minami-Rek Sakura Festival, the Ainan Great Catch Festival, and muddy soccer. Muddy soccer, officially known as swamp soccer, is a sport played worldwide.
