About Yachimata City

Yachimata City is located in northern Chiba Prefecture, 10 km from Narita Airport. The climate is particularly cold in winter, with temperatures sometimes dropping below freezing. During the Meiji period, Koganemaki and Sakuramaki, which had been pasturelands for the Tokugawa Shogunate, were reclaimed as farmland, giving the city its name. This region boasts Japan's leading peanut production. The Yachimata City Peanut Relay Race is held in January, and the Yachimata Fureai Summer Festival is held in August. The Yachimata Grand Festival and Yachimata City Industrial Festival are also held in November. In addition to peanuts, the area is also home to a thriving crop of carrots, radishes, and watermelons. The city's tree is the sweet osmanthus, and its flower is the sunflower. The name "Yachimata" comes from the fact that it was the eighth area to be reclaimed during the Meiji period.
