About Shirai City
Shirai City is located in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture. Originally a farming area, the opening of the Hokuso Line in 1979 has led to the city's rapid development as a commuter town. Residents have begun moving into Chiba New Town, and the population has increased. However, if you look to the northern part of Shirai City, you will find plenty of nature remaining. This is an area where urban development and natural abundance coexist in harmony. One-third of the cultivated land is used for fruit cultivation, producing pears, grapes, kiwifruit, and more. In particular, pear cultivation, which began in the Meiji era, is the largest in Chiba Prefecture in terms of production volume, cultivation area, and number of farms. Since 2002, the Niju Festival has been held to celebrate coming of age.
