Kashiwa City borders not only the cities of Chiba Prefecture, but also Toride and Moriya in Ibaraki Prefecture. The central area is a transportation hub, and the Tsukuba Express runs through the northern area of the city. Kashiwa began to function as a bedroom community for Tokyo in the 1960s, which led to an increase in population. Industry is thriving, with many industrial parks within the city. Agriculture is also thriving, and the city is particularly known for its production of turnips and leeks. Famous places include Tokai-ji Temple on Mount Benryu and the former Yoshida family residence, and tourist spots include the area around Kashiwa Station. The many street musicians that gather around the station are another attraction.
