Kamagaya City has had two merger talks in the past, during the Showa and Heisei eras, but neither merger took place, and the situation remains unchanged to this day. No municipal mergers have been carried out for over 100 years. Kamagaya City is famous as one of Chiba Prefecture's leading pear-producing areas, and is home to tourist pear orchards. It is also known for being the first pear-based brandy prototype in Japan. In addition to the tourist pear orchards, the city also has tourist grape orchards. Tourist attractions include the City Establishment Memorial Park, Citizens' Forest, and Kaigara Park. Other historic sites include Kamagaya Temple and Hachiman Shrine. Events include YOSAKOI Kamagaya and Kamagaya Tokkome Yose.
