About Isumi City
Isumi City was formed in 2005 by the merger of three towns. Facing the Pacific Ocean and blessed with a warm climate, it has thrived as a garden city. Cultivation of wild yam, tomatoes, blueberries, and other crops is thriving. Fishing is also thriving, with Sotobo spiny lobster and Taito/Ohara octopus certified as Chiba brand seafood. Local specialties include octopus curry, blueberry brown sugar, blueberry jelly, and pear liquor. There are also many tourist attractions, including the Taito Coastal Plant Community, Japan's first nationally designated natural monument, where you can observe plants such as Pittosporum japonicum and rare wildlife such as little terns. The eastern district is home to Genji Firefly Village, where you can enjoy the magical dance of fireflies.
