About Sai Village
Sai Village, Shimokita District, is located on the west coast of the Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture. The village is mostly surrounded by the Osorezan mountain range. Nine settlements are scattered along the coastline. The village's central settlements are the Osai and Furusai districts, with 60% of the population concentrated in these two areas. The surrounding mountains include Arazawayama and Osakuyama, and the Osai River and Furusai River are the rivers. Long ago, the village was a hiba (Japanese cypress) production and shipping port, and prospered as a ferry port to Ezo. Forestry is the village's main industry, with 90% of the village's land area covered by forest, 90% of which is designated as national forest. Tourism and fishing are also thriving. Hotokegaura is a major tourist destination.
