About Higashidōri Village
Higashidori Village, Shimokita District, is located in the northeast of the Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean and the Tsugaru Strait. Cape Shiriya is located at the northeastern tip, and Mount Kuwabata is located near the cape. The area has flat terrain and is dotted with low-lying mountains. The village's core facilities are concentrated in the central inland area, with other settlements scattered throughout the village. Geographically, the village is surrounded by Mount Kuwabata and Mount Katazaki, and the Tanabe River flows through it. Lakes and ponds include Lake Konuma, Lake Imonuma, and Lake Naganuma. The main industry is the energy industry, including the Higashidori Nuclear Power Plant, but fishing and mining are also active. Cape Shiriya is known as a scenic spot, and the Shiriyazaki Lighthouse and the Kandachi Horse are particularly famous. Sakyo Numa, home to marimo (moss balls), a designated natural monument, is also home to the Sakyo Numa.
