About Nanbu Town
Nanbu Town, Sannohe County, is located in the southeastern part of Aomori Prefecture. Most of the town is hilly, with little flat land. Mount Nakui lies to the south of the town, and the Mabechi River flows through the center. In 2006, Nanbu Town, Nagawa Town, and Fukuji Village merged to form the new Nanbu Town. It was the birthplace of the Nanbu Domain in ancient times, and many historical sites related to the Nanbu clan remain. The town's primary industry is agriculture, with fruit cultivation at its core. Apples, cherries, grapes, pears, and persimmons are the main crops. The town operates the only municipal fruit and vegetable market in Japan. Among the town's cultural assets are the Mausoleum of Nanbu Toshiyasu, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, and the ruins of Shojuji Temple, designated a national historic site.
