Located at the easternmost point of southern Aomori Prefecture, Hashikami Town in Sannohe County serves as a commuter town for Hachinohe City and forms part of the Hachinohe metropolitan area. The town boasts a high proportion of university students and a high proportion of the population aged 19 to 22. The town is surrounded by coastal terraces, and mountains such as Mount Hashikami line the border with Iwate Prefecture. The area around Mount Hashikami is also home to many popular tourist destinations. The town's specialty products are seafood, including popular dishes like simmered strawberries, salted sea urchin, and seaweed ramen. The town's climate is on the Pacific coast, but despite being located in the northeastern part of Tohoku, it enjoys little snowfall and long hours of sunshine in winter. While agriculture and fishing are the town's primary industries, it now primarily functions as a commuter town for Hachinohe City.
