About Rokkasho Village
Rokkasho Village in Kamikita District is home to a concentration of energy resource production facilities, including nuclear power plants and wind power plants. Because the area is susceptible to the effects of the Yamase winds, agriculture primarily focuses on underground crops (potatoes and burdock). As a fishing area, the area's location at the confluence of warm and cold currents makes the nearby waters a treasure trove of seafood, with pacific flying squid landings (summer to fall) and salmon fishing (fall to winter) thriving. The area is also revitalized by welcoming industrial development from both within and outside the prefecture. Traditional performing arts are also preserved and passed down, with a folk arts recital called "Kurauchi Children's Kagura" being held. The cultural exchange plaza "Swany," which also includes a library, is a community center for villagers.
