Toyohashi City is the central city of the East Mikawa area, with roughly half of the area's population concentrated in the city. Mikawa Port, which is part of the city, plays an important role as a hub for imports and exports. The city is also known for its relatively warm climate, with little or no snowfall, even in winter. Vegetables are also produced extensively in the city, with cabbage and Chinese cabbage being particularly abundant. Many companies have their headquarters here, and many residents work for these companies.
