About Tokai City
Tokai City in Aichi Prefecture is located at the northwestern tip of the Chita Peninsula. Formed in 1969 by the merger of Ueno Town and Yokosuka Town, the city's name, "Tokai City," was chosen through a public contest. It forms part of the southern Nagoya coastal industrial zone, Aichi Prefecture's main industrial area, and has developed as an industrial hub. Tourist attractions include Daichi Park, home to approximately 1,100 cherry trees of seven varieties, and Shiawase Village, home to an imposing 18.79-meter-tall Great Buddha. From early to late November, Shiawase Village's approximately 550 maple trees of seven varieties, including Japanese maples, turn red and envelop the Great Buddha, and the Jurakuen Park Maple Festival is held to coincide with this.
