About Takahama City
Takahama City is known as the birthplace of Sanshu tiles. Crafted using high-quality clay, Sanshu tiles are a nationally renowned masterpiece. Japan's largest ancient demon-faced tile can be seen in the square in front of Takahama Port Station, a popular tourist attraction. Poultry farming is also popular, and Takahama Torimeshi, a chicken dish made with rice, is a famous B-grade gourmet dish. Many traditional festivals have been passed down in Takahama City, including the Omanto Festival, a city-designated intangible folk cultural asset; the Shinto archery ritual known as Ihokyu; and the rain-making festival, Enchoko Shishi and Zenidaiko. These festivals, where visitors can experience the city's long history, attract many tourists from both within and outside the city.
