About Tahara City
Tahara City, located in Aichi Prefecture, is located at the southern tip of the prefecture. It is a long, narrow peninsula stretching from east to west along the Pacific Ocean, jutting out toward Ise Bay. It enjoys a beautiful natural environment surrounded by ocean and mountains. Facing two seas with different characteristics, Mikawa Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the city is home to rare flora and fauna, including loggerhead turtles and the red-veined dragonfly. Tahara is dotted with numerous Jomon ruins, including the three major shell mounds of Ikawatsu, Yoshiko, and Homi. It also boasts other historical sites and buildings, such as the ruins of Tashiro Castle, making it a popular tourist destination for history buffs. Local specialties include the high-sugar Ryuju tomato, a product of the warm climate and the influence of the Kuroshio Current, and sweet corn, which can be eaten raw.
