Obu City is located at the northern tip of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, and most of the city is made up of hilly terrain. The Sakai River flows to the east and the Kuraruse River flows through the center, forming a small alluvial plain. The city's history dates back to the Paleolithic period, and the city is home to the Kyoei Ruins, the oldest ruins in the city, as well as the Koyasu Shrine Ruins and Sosaku Ruins. Many vestiges of the war-torn era, such as Oiwake Castle, Yokone Castle, and Kubizuka (head mounds), remain from the Sengoku period. Rice farming has long been the center of the city's industry, and the hills are home to numerous agricultural reservoirs. The city boasts the highest production of Isemo (a type of sweet potato) in the prefecture. A variety of industries, including automobile manufacturing, are also operating, and an industrial park has also been developed.
