About Kiyosu City
Kiyosu City is located in the northwestern part of Aichi Prefecture, on a relatively flat terrain in the lower reaches of the Shonai River. During the Sengoku period, it was nationally famous as the base of Oda Nobunaga, and as the capital of Owari, it was known as a great town in the Tokai region. Since the Edo period, it has flourished as a post town on the Mino Kaido road, as well as a market town on the same road. Biwajima City has abundant financial resources, and each neighborhood association made its own Nagoya-style float. This festival, known as the Owari Nishibiwajima Festival, has continued since the Edo period and is beloved by many locals and visitors alike as one of the few festivals that continues the tradition of the Nagoya Toshogu Shrine. Kiyosu Castle, as well as historical sites such as the Asahi Ruins and Kiyosu-juku, are popular tourist spots.
